Department of Fiqh& Usul al-Fiqh

Department of Fiqh and Usul-al Fiqh was established in 2009 and it has been known as one of the department that produce competitive human resources particularly in the area of Islamic Shariah in Kerala. As the name suggests the department offers two areas of concentration. (1) Fiqh: This is concerned with the various branches of Islamic Shariah laws, comparative jurisprudence, history and evolution of four schools, Islamic finance, minority jurisprudence and the issues related to the implementation of Shariah laws to new situations. (2) Usul Al-Fiqh: it deals with the source, objectives and principles of Islamic shariah. The formation of such a group of scholars who can apply Islamic traditional texts according to the recent issues faced by the community is the primary objective of the department. Therefore, Department has taken a harmony approach that it has been blended both traditional and modern academic works together. This has helped the students to make an accurate analysis based on the real facts and authentic proves and to be aware of new trends and movement in the area of Islamic jurisprudence. Besides the curricular activities, department stands with a variety of co-curricular activities like the publication of manuscripts, books, hand books, journal articles and organization of seminars, conferences and exhibitions and launching of mobile apps which will help the department to be vibrant and sound inside the campus as well as outside.
