DHIU Karnataka Campus Foundation Stone Laid by the Hon. Chancellor

Description
Foundation stone of the DHIU Karnataka Campus was laid on 23rd May 2016 Monday by Panakkad Sayyid Haidar Ali Shihab Thangal, honorable Chancellor of the University. Dr. Bahauddeen Muhammed Nadwi, the Vice Chancellor, presided over the function.  The proposed 6.14 acre campus is situated at Hangal village of Haveri district in the northern Karnataka State. This is the fourth outer-Kerala campus of DHIU, after Punganur in Seemandhra, Birbhum in West Bengal and Baisha in Assam states. Currently, DHIU has two affiliated undergraduate colleges in Karnataka; one in Kashipatna and another in Madannur.

International Conference on Qur’anic Interpretation in India concluded successfully

    Inaugural International Conference on Qur’anic Interpretation in India (ICQI-1) was held at the DHIU Central Campus on 19 to 20 March, 2016. The two day academic conference was organized by the postgraduate department of Qur’an& Related Sciences. Arranged in 10 sessions, more than 50 research papers were presented while English and Arabic were the conference languages. Prof. Dr. Radwan Jamal Elatrash, University of Jordan, inaugurated the international conference. Dr. M.K. Muneer (Hon. Minister of the Social Welfare, Govt. of Kerala), Hon. P.V Abdul Wahab (Member of the Parliament, India), Sayyid Muhammad Koya Jamalullayl (Calicut Qazi) and Panakkad Sayyid Munavvar Ali Shihab were the chief guests of the Inaugural Session. Prof. Emeritus Dr. N.A.M. Abdul Kader (University of Calicut), Prof. Dr. Israr Ahmad Khan (International Islamic University Malaysia), Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Barakati (Assunnah Foundation, Mumbai), Dr. Muneer Hudawi Mavur and M.K Jabir Ali Hudawi (Registrar, DHIU), Dr. Cherif Gouich (University of Oran, Algeria) and Dr. Sam’an Nadwi (Al Jamia Al Islamiyyah, Bhatkal) chaired different academic sessions. The valedictory session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Bahauddeen Muhammed Nadwi, the Vice Chancellor of DHIU. Hon. P.K. Abdu Rab (Minister of Education, Govt. of Kerala) was the chief guest of the session. Prof. Dr. Israr Ahmad Khan from the Department of Qur’an& Sunnah Studies, International Islamic University Malaysia, delivered the keynote address on the topic: “Coherence the Most Viable Methodology of Qur’anic Interpretation: The Indian Perspective”. Suhail Hidaya Hudawi delivered his welcome remarks and C.H. Shareef Hudawi extended the vote of thanks. Scholars from different national and international universities, prominent academicians and students were among those who presented papers and delivered lectures at the conference. The conference by and large tried to set a wider platform for the academics to exchange their knowledge highlighting the contributions of Indian Subcontinent to the field of Qur’anic Studies. In the next year, the second edition of ICQI will discuss the translations of the Qur’an- said the organizers.

Philo-Safar: Aqeeda& Philosophy Department Collaborates with National Centre for Research& Development

     Department of Aqeedah and Philosophy collaborated with the National Centre for Research and Development (NCRD), by organizing the Philo-Safar '2016. The event was a three day trip for field work and survey programme at Bangalore in DJ Halli, Karnataka aiming the socio-cultural development of the marginalized, poor and underprivileged Muslims in slum areas. The event was on 22-24 April 2016.  The comprehensive survey and survey report prepared by the Department's research scholars is expected to help to make an overview of the Muslim societies in slums in general, and to converge the different government schemes, programmes, private and voluntary initiatives to achieve over all development. Mr. Nizar Ahammad IPS, Former Inspector General of Karnataka State and chairman of NCRD, leaded the Philo-Safar activities.

Department of fiqh and usul al-fiqh conducted study tour to other state fatwa centers

Department of fiqh and usul al-fiqh conducted a study to four south Indian cities; Hyderabad,Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai to study about the fatwa centers of these cities and thereby to implement the good models in the functions of Majlisul fatawa wal buhuth, the fatwa issuing body which had been inaugurated two months ago. Department divided students into three teams and sent each team to each city. The students as part of the search for good models se visited many fatwa issuing bodies and many maslaha centers of these four cities like famous Baqiyat al-Salihat of Bangalore and Nizamiyya of Hyderabad.
