Founding General Secretary
Dr. U. Bapputty Haji, a traditional physician by profession, was the founding General Secretary of Darul Huda Islamic Academy. Born in 1929 to Kunjaalan Kutti Vaidyar and Puthukkutti Kunchi Kadiumma, his real name was Kunjavaran Kutti while Bapputti is the nickname. Starting from his father, his school education was from Nilimavungal A.M.L.P School and Tirurangadi A.U.P. School. His religious training was completed from Tirurangadi Noorul Islam Madrasa, Parappil Madrasathul Muhammadiyyah and Tirurangadi Orphanage. From the Kottakkal Ayurvedic College, he won the certificate of an Ayurvedic physician. From the early teenage, he exhibited a keen interest in the social and religious activities. He was the founding president of Jama’ath Khidmath al-Islam, an influential Islamic platform of his native town which runs mosques, religious schools etc. He is one of the key proponents of Sunni Mahallu Federation, a platform to coordinate different regional religious authorities. When the seeds of disunity appeared in Samastha Kerala Jam’iyyathul Ulama and it started to influence the community corruptively, he put big efforts to solve the issue. Dr. Haji played a vital role in the establishment of Darul Huda Islamic Academy. In the wake of the failure of Ideal Dars System that was proponed by himand his colleagues, he realized the idea of an alternative implementation of the same in a separate campus. He, Chemmukkan Kunjappu Haji and K.M. Zaid Alawi Haji collectively carried out the leading role of the acquirement and landfill of a wider area of wastelands in the suburbs of Chemmad town, popularly known as Manippadam. Although some people around him ruled out the possibility of a successful campus in such a wasteland and blamed him, his painstaking initiatives and consequent success transformed the same people into his supporters. The essence of his vision of Darul Huda can be clearly perceived from the following passage extracted from his speech at the first convocation ceremony in 1998: “Out of this institution I dream of a bunch of highly talented scholars quintessentially grown up and groomed under sublime directives of Islam, in whose veins flow the sheer favor of Allah the Almighty, who are capable of steeling the hearts of society with sterling behavior, eloquence and writing ingenuity. Days will come, when the meadows of this institution will be crowned with white Europeans, black Africans, and blond haired Americans, who reached to get sheltered in this pleasure chest of knowledge.” His demise was on 22 nd July 2003 at his own residence in Chemmad. His body was laid to rest at the Darul Huda campus itself.
Founding President
M.M. Basheer Musliyar was the founding president of Darul Huda Islamic Academy. Born to Ahmad Musliyar and Khadiyya on 3 rd February 1929 in the British India, he is considered among the most ever visionary leaders of Samastha Kerala Jam’iyyathul Ulama, the most influential religious organization of Kerala Muslims. He remained as a visionary reformer of Dars system (Muslim seminaries based at regional mosques) in Kerala. He was one of the key proponents of Sunni Mahallu Federation, a platform to coordinate different regional religious authorities. Having completed his primary education in supervision of his father, Musliyar simultaneously earned secular education from Govt. L.P. School of Cheroor, studied his upper primary in U.P. School of Vengara, and then JDT Islam Kozhikode. He was admitted in the Dars of Achanampalam village and later referred to Madrasa Baqiyath al- Swalihath in Vellore, Tamil Nadu for the higher education. Same like a typical Alim of the then Kerala, he started teaching in Dars system in many regions of the state like Achanambalam, Mattathur and Kondotty. Later, in 1972, he was invited to Rahmaniyya Arabic College at Kadameri in Calicut as Principal. His pioneering role in the foundation of DHIU is perceived as his most noteworthy contribution. He continued to be the Principal of Darul Huda Islamic Academy until his demise on 22 nd January 1987.

C.H Aidarus Musliyar (1933–1994) is a Sunni Muslim religious scholar of 20 th century Kerala. He was the Vice President of Samastha Kerala JamiyyathulUlama, the supreme religious organization of Muslims in the state. He served as the President of Darul Huda Islamic Academy from 1989 to July 1993. He was born to an Islamic scholarly family of 19 th century Malabar in 1933 September 3 in the village of Puthupparamba near Kottakkal. His father Cheerangan Muhammad Musliyar was a Khatib and Imam in the Central Juma Masjid in Kottakkal. After the primary education in his native place, Aidarus Musliyar joined the Madrasa al- Baqiyatas-Salihat Vellore, one of the earliest centres of Islamic higher study in south India. After he was awarded the degree of Maulawi Fadhil al Baqawi, he engaged in teaching Islamic Sciences in the regional mosques of Orakam and Edakkulam villages in Malappuram District. Through his teachings, he trained a big number of highly qualified Islamic scholars including Dr. Bahauddeen Muhammed Nadwi, P.P Muhammed Faizee etc. In the last decades of his life, he resigned from all teaching commitments and the rest of his life was exclusively submitted for full time activism in the field of the spiritual and educational empowerment of Muslim community in Kerala. As the senior Vice President of Samastha Kerala Jam’iyyathul Ulama, he played a vital role in popularizing the scholarly organization. Being an organizer of Samastha, he established many mosques, regional religious authorities popularly known as Mahallu Jama’aths, orphanages and religious schools in various villages of the Kerala state. He was one of the key proponents of Sunni Mahallu Federation, a platform to coordinate different regional religious authorities. When disharmony appeared among the scholars of Samastha Kerala Jam’iyyathul Ulama and it started to influence the community corruptively, he was out to put big efforts to solve the issue. Being one of the six founding fathers of Darul Huda Islamic University, he served as the President of Darul Huda Islamic Academy from 1989 to July 1993. His demise was on 7 th May 1994, and buried at Puthupparamba Juma Masjid.
