Fathima Zahra Islamic Women’s College, an exclusive and unique Islamic institute for women, was established in 1992 to promote the quality oriented Islamic knowledge and contemporary education in the Muslim girls of Kerala and thus to mould up female scholars. The institution which situates adjacent to the DHIU main campus provides quality education for Muslim girls in order to nurture them as exemplary women rooted in Islamic culture, ethics and morality. The compulsory course, which lasts for 6 years and comprises of Matriculation (NIOS) and +1 and +2 educations through the open school system, is followed by 3-year optional course of specialization. They are taught diverse subjects of Islamic and Modern human science subjects like Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, Tafsir, Tasawuf, science and technology, mathematics, social science, computer and information technology, etc. Enough attention is paid to make the students well acquainted and equipped in four languages: English, Arabic, Hindi and Malayalam. In addition to the academic subjects, the institutions provide professional training in designing, tailoring and embroidery. After the successful completion of 6-year stream of education, DHIU awards on every student the honorific title of “Al-Zahrawiya”
Alike the all entrance criteria of all other offspring institution, it also enrolls students through a written and oral interview. The girls of 12-13 ½ age group completed the 7th standard successfully in the SKIMV Board are eligible to apply for the interview to dedicate their future for this very sincere effort of bringing up women in an Islamic frontline life. The call for application is made in the Arabic month of Sha’ban every year, while the entrance test is held in the first week of Shawwāl. The aspirant should fill the application form available in the official website or in the main office of DHIU on or before Ramadan 20.
To help the practical implementation of tools of students, university offers many vivid and unique extra-curricular activities. Like seminars on relevant issues, and arrangement of intellectual group discussion inside the campus about the recent events and topics, yearly arts fest, Indoor Orientation Camps, Ziyara and Study tours.
Continuous and comprehend evaluations program is developed by the board of examination to check out the academic progress of students. The board will conduct each year three terminal examinations at the first two levels of secondary and senior secondary and who is able to achieve the fixed percentage of marks determined by the board is allowed for the promotion into the next year. The last exam of the secondary and Senior Secondary are public exams comprising the whole students of this curriculum i.e. students of main campus and of all affiliated colleges. If any student has to repeat the same class twice continuously or thrice randomly he might have to discontinue the course.
